Home Learning at the George Eliot School is constantly developing. We use lots of online platforms such as Hegarty, Educake, iDEA and GCSE Pod. Since the start of June we have begun to move home learning to Microsoft Teams with the introduction of pre-recorded lesson and live Question and Feedback sessions.
Our form tutors, mentors and our pastoral team are in regular contact with home through phone calls, emails and socially distanced home visits when needed.
We are a family and we always appreciate receiving feedback from parents, pupils and staff to help us to continue to grow.
I just wanted to say a big thank you to all at George Eliot school for what you have been doing over the past few months. It has been such a difficult time, and one that no one could have predicted, or prepared for, but I genuinely feel lucky to have had my children as students here during the lockdown. There has been plenty of work set to keep them busy, every time they have emailed a teacher with a question they have had a quick reply and I'm impressed with the online lessons that have been carried out. They have had lots of positive feedback for the work they have done in the bulletin and through the my ed app, which has motivated them to keep working hard. A special thank you to Miss Taylor and the weekly phonecalls, where it has been great to be able to ask any questions that have cropped up - she has always got back to me with the answer, and has been genuinely interested in how [------] and [------] have been doing - it's been really reassuring to have the regular contact with the school over the lockdown.
I just wanted to say that you have done a great job through this difficult time, and it has been really appreciated. Please pass on my thanks to your staff, and wishes for a very well deserved restful summer,
I would also like to say a big thank you, for all the hard work you have been doing to keep in contact and supporting the children. Your enthusiasm is greatly appreciated and I know that [-------] feels very lucky to have you as her form tutor.
I just wanted to pass on my thanks & appreciation for Mrs Bradshaw going above & beyond!
My daughter, [-------], year 7 was struggling with her maths & therefore emailed Mrs Bradshaw for help.
Mrs Bradshaw responded immediately & arranged to call [------] in the evening when [-------]would have been sat at her laptop- this is an excellent demonstration of a committed teacher that has not only helped [-------] with her maths but has demonstrated a great work ethic to my daughter- thank you!
I am a very keen and enthusiastic parent who absolutely supports all learning. I am in awe of what the schools and teachers have achieved during this unprecedented time, but, I am also a realist with a teenager and I wanted to put in writing just how much I appreciate the efforts of the school - in particular the way Mrs Gadsby and Miss Eggington have transformed, motivated and made the crucial subject of English a bit more fun, bearable and definitely 'do-able'.
My thanks again for the outstanding efforts the GES as a whole is making to help our kids and us parents through this.
Fingers crossed that normality comes back soon!
Morning all - I wanted to email to say thank you for the English home learning this week, it was a breath of fresh air, instantly I could see [-------] was engaged with it, and felt that he was learning.
The tone and speed was just right, and it felt that you were talking just to them
With kind regards
I hope you are well? I just wanted to give some feedback on the English home learning that Mr Salisbury and Miss Thornley created last week. It was excellent, [-------] said she got so much more out of the lesson than just reading the PowerPoint sessions .
Thanks to all your team for the hard work.
I just wanted to say that I think the new style of lessons are brilliant. It's so much better to actually hear you teaching and explaining things. I hope it continues! Many thanks.
Would like to say a big thank you to GES for the lovely postive phone call received from Miss Lynch today to check on [-------].
It was a lovely gesture from the school and greatly appreciated.
Can I just say - as a parent - the work you have done for [-------] is outstanding.
It really isn't easy this home-schooling stuff but what you do is making things a lot more bearable
I just want to say a huge thank you to the school for all you are doing for our children. My daughter is settled in to a routine, gets regular feedback from her teachers and it’s lovely to see her efforts recognised with the STAR awards. The new teacher led lessons are easy to follow and a good mix with the Doddle. She enjoys the live Carnegie sessions – encouraging her to read lots. Thank you for all you are doing, please pass my thanks to the staff.
Today my child received a STAR award. We are so grateful that as a school you are acknowledging the students work this way and on the newsletters. Thank you for continuing to communicate with our children and provide them with a variety of lessons/work over this time. Your hard work and support is greatly appreciated. I hope you are all well and staying safe.
I wanted to say thanks to all of [-------]'s teachers who are encouraging him to work hard in this new way . He and his sister [------] in year 10 have been working really hard at home and I am proud at how self motivated they have both been. There has been lots of work set to keep them going and teachers have been very quick at responding and giving feedback .
It has been really nice for [------] to get acknowledged in the bulletin for the work he’s done in English , food tech , science and maths. This has really motivated and encouraged him to keep going, so I just wanted to pass on some feedback that how you encourage children is really working and a big thank you to all of his teachers .
Just wanted to let you know that I found your live lesson this morning really useful and thought it was an effective way to interact with us as well as teaching
I really appreciate what you and everyone else at school are doing right now.
Thank you Miss. I really liked this way of learning because with someone in front of me explaining the topic without me trying to explain it to myself helped so much and I understood the work a lot better.
Thank you for putting together the video. It helped me to understand it a lot better.
Hi Mr Clark
I have just seen the feedback you gave me on Hegarty Maths for the area of the triangle shape things. Even though I re-did it before I saw the feedback I got it right. I just wanted to let you know that the video did help me ot fully make sure I understand if and secure my learning on the topic.
Thank you for helping
Thank you for the video. I went back to the questions again and I got 100% after writing it out and working that way rather than doing it all in my head :)
Feedback from a parent of a Year 10 pupil after their child's first day back in school
[-------] is buzzing!
He has had a fab day thank you
Thank you. We appreciate the support.
George Eliot really are doing an amazing job with the home learning.
George Eliot has done really well in what they have offered and the feedback that has been given to pupils.
